Simply Sunday Challenge at Getting Cricky

Hello everyone!
It's been a crazy week at the Bailey house.  Work has been crazy, my boss (which I liked) was fired, my daughter is out of town and I miss her, my other daughter just lost two heart breaking basketball games in a row and I spent the week installing over 800 pieces of art for our Youth Art Month exhibition at the museum where I work.  It's my favorite show all year.  Young artists from K-12th grade show their best art work and it is AMAZING! what these kids can do!  So inspiring!
I hope all is well with everyone in blog land.
Today is our Simply Sunday Challenge at Getting Cricky with K. Andrew.  I hope you will create a project and play along.  There will be prize for a lucky person randomly chosen that links up their project on the Getting Cricky blog.
Today's challenge is "Argh Matey" - anything with a pirate or fishy theme.  Here is my project.

 I used paper from my stash, mostly old and wonderful Basic Grey, some of my all time favorites. The flower is cut on my Cricut using the Flower Shoppe cartridge and the mermaid is a darling stamp from the K. Andrew set called Pirate Party, it is an art/image set that also includes a few sentiments, but there is an entire sentiment set that goes with this set called Pirate Tales and Fish Scales: Sentiments.  They are really cute and good for many occasions.

I stamped the mermaid on several pattern papers and then again on flesh colored cardstock, then I cut out the parts and pieced them together on the flesh cardstock.  I used the Liquid Pearls by Ranger, obviously appropriate! :) for the pearl earrings and necklace and a little bit of antique brass Stickles by Tim Holt in her hair but it did not photograph well.  I also used a Peachy Keen face for her.  The mermaid stamp doesn't have a face on it, that way you can either choose the stamped face that comes in the set or use or draw another. I adore PK stamps and was so excited they work with Kristals stamps.  What a team!!!

Chef Thank You Card

Hi everyone!  We are about to leave on vacation...I am so excited...off to the beautiful Rocky Mountains on a much needed get away with my family.  But I just could not leave town without making another project inspired yet again by the Peachy Keen Challenge Blog.  It is another Let's Face it Friday challenge and this time it is a shaped card.  Here are the challenge details:

Create a shaped card using PKS faces. No die cutting machine? No problem! Use a corner rounder to create a subtle shape or half of a large die to create your shape.

Here is my entry:

 This is a thank you card for the great chefs from Texas State Technical College Culinary Institute for teaching the summer kids cooking camp for the museum where I work.  They did an outstanding job and the kids just loved them!

 I used several "thank you" stamps that I had and embossed the front using the jade embossing powder from Stampendous.

 And of course, the cutest faces around...Peachy Keen Everyday Character Faces.  They take the card to another level that no other stamps can get close too!

In order to make it a shape card for the challenge, I cut the paper dolls out two times each and the bowl out 3 times.  After I assembled the front pieces of the card and got them all glued together, I then turned the card over and I laid the second body cuts on the backs of the front ones and made sure they were lined up on the back.  I used a ruler to mark a horizontal line for folding and then  scored the line that I drew and folded the tops of the paper doll heads. 

Here is what the heads looked like once I scored and folded them.  Then I put just a touch of glue on the part that is folded up and then lined them up again on the back of the card and glued the tops down.
Once the bodies were glued to the top of the card, I refolded the card to make sure it would move correctly and then I glued the next bowl onto the legs of the bodies, glued their hands together and any other part that needed to be glued so that it became one piece.

The third bowl I mentioned was glued to the back of the card front so when you open the card, it looks a little neater.  As I look at the back, I think I am going to cut the bowl one more time and cover their legs in the back so that it looks like they are inside the bowl from every angle.  Here is the recipe:

• 4 bowls - Create a critter - pg. 58 cut at 5.0" - 1 bowl was filled with a pattern from Imagine Hopscotch - the rest are left white
• 4 chefs and accessories - Everyday Paperdolls - pg. 72/73 cut at 4.0 - 2 were colored with Imagine Hopscotch color palette and the other two left white
• PK 490 Everyday Character Faces from Peachy Keen Stamps
• White enamel accent for buttons

I hope you like this card, I had fun making it and it went together really fast.  now I realize some of you that are real whizzes with your Gypsy could create a great file for this so that the back of the card is cut in one piece.  I kind of winged it and made it as I went along.  Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a blessed Sonday!

Smile Card

Hello everyone!
I wanted to share a card I made for my very bestest friend, Cindy for her birthday.  She is a fellow scrap booker and I just had to make her this card.   I got this card idea from one of my favorite blogs,  Everyday Cricut, a while back and have been eagerly waiting to find time to create it.  I almost copied exactly with a few tweaks.  I used the Peachy Keen everyday character face stamps instead of the Cute and Cuddly, then of course, I went right to the PK website and ordered the others.

 The card was cut at 5" from the Wild Card cartridge.  Wow!  I had no idea that this cartridge made these fun cards.  This is the pinwheel card and liner from page 51.  I cut the card shadow so it didn't have all the little decorative holes in it.  But what it cool is, it cuts the card, the round window and the hole for the brad and the the liner is the circle that I stamped the faces onto.  It already cuts the brad hole in the circle also.  So I put the circle behind the front of the card.  Lined up the holes and put in the brad.  Then I used a pencil to trace the opening circle where the faces are stamped so I could take it apart to stamp all 4 different faces onto the circle on a flat surface (the brad was in the way) then erased the pencil marks and put it back together.

 So there is a notch at the bottom of the card where you can turn it to see the 4 different faces.  I LOVE this card.  I will be making it over and over again.  I sure will be looking for more ideas using the Wild Card cartridge soon.

 The entire card was made with white cardstock then cut and filled with the patterns from the Imagine Hopscotch cartridge.  One of my favorite cartridges in the world!   I used my EK paper edge punches for the white trim on the patterned strips and I also used a corner rounder on the whole card.  It actually cuts out with square corners.

 I cut the flower from the Hello Kitty Font cartridge and cut it too bit but I like the way it hung off a little and it fit into the envelope so I just left it that size.  I think I cut it at about 3".

 I stamped and embossed the word smile using some old alpha stamps I got at Hobby Lobby many moons ago and then used a white Gelly Roll pen to write "don't forget". Oh, and I forgot to mention that when I gave Cindy her card, I wrapped it up with a new set of Peachy Keen Stamps just for her!

Peachy Keen Stamps :: Sketch Challenge 57 w/a Twist!

Hey everyone! I'm back already with my newest addiction...Peachy Keen Stamps!  This time it is a sketch challenge.  You can check out their challenge page on the Peachy Keen blog if you want to be challenged yourself!

Here is the challenge, copied from the blog...

• Create a card based on the layout provided (Peachy Keen Stamps are not required for this challenge, but if you've got them, we looooove seeing how you create with them!) 
• Project must include basic elements from the sketch, and color combo!

Not too hard, so I decided to keep it simple.  Here is what I came up with...

I cut the card 4 x 6 to begin with.  Now the really fun part.  I used a free program that I downloaded from the internet to get the EXACT colors from the color swatch above.  It is called "Color Cop," a free multipurpose color picker.  Someone on the Cricut Message Board told us about it (not sure who the original poster was that mentioned it, and I won't go into the little tiff that broke out over "who was the first to mention it"...crazy!)  Any whoo...after you download this neat little program, you open it and take the little eye dropper and hover over the color swatch and it tells you the exact RGB code of the color and you enter it in your Imagine and TADA!!! you print and cut with the exact colors!  This makes me giddy it is so cool :)

To enter the RGB (red, green, blue) numbers you click on the image, then the little edit pencil and then in the color palette below the image there is a square with a rainbow and a down arrow, click it and you will see the place at the bottom to enter the codes.  IT IS SO COOOOOL!  This is a HUGE reason I love my Imagine.  The card above was made with white cardstock.

And of course I had to stamp on a cute little Peachy Keen face.  The two large volleyballs were cut from Sports Mania at 1.5" and the three small ones were cut at 1.2".  I cut the "I dig" from the same cartridge at 1" and then I inked all the edges, because that's the way I roll! :D

 

Now for the volleyball net in the background.  I had this cool stuff in my stash for ages.  It is called Magic Mesh and I don't know if you can even get it anymore.  I got it from Leaving Prints, a direct sales scrapbook company I used to work for which no longer exists :(.  It is sticky on one side and I inked the non-sticky side to make it black-ish because it was white.  Then I just cut 1/4" strips for the tape across the top and bottom.

On the inside I cut the "YOU" using the Varsity Letters Lite cartridge from Walmart and cut them at 1 1/2".  I really like the way it turned out and I hope you do also.

Oh Barn! Peachy Keen Face It Friday Challenge

Well, I didn't make the design team I submitted a layout for, but I sure enjoyed creating the layout and the suspense of waiting to find out who made it.  There are a TON of talented crafters out there but I am going to keep at it and work on improving my skills!

Sooooo, as some of you know, Peachy Keen Stamps has some of the CUTEST face stamps ever and I haven't been using mine much so I decided to take part in their Face it Friday challenge, which I have never done before.  I must also mention this card was made for my dad, because I got his birthday mixed up with my nephew's and forgot to tell him happy birthday.  Maybe this will cheer him up.  It makes me smile when I look at it!

The challenge was to use a Peachy Keen stamp and also a pun.  I had seen this pun somewhere before but I have no idea where.  I just got Country Life cartridge and loved the barn on it so I used it for this card.

I like to make my cards on 8 1/2 x 11" cardstock folded in half.  It gives me lots of design room.  I used Everyday Paper Dolls and cut the farmer at 4" along with his pitch fork and animals.  I used the Peachy Keen stamp from the PK 490-Everyday Character Face Assortment.  There are just so many uses for this set.

I just drew on the face for the pig and the chicken, then quickly went to Peachykeenstamps.com and purchased the Critter faces set :)

I love the innocent shocked look on his face!  I used my Copics to do all the coloring, drawing in his hair (I didn't like the cut for the hair) and also to add highlights and colored the band on his hat.  I used Peacock Liquid Pearls for his overall buttons and a white Gellyroll pen for the dots and details. 

The barn was cut at 3.5" from the Country Life cartridge and filled with my Imagine cartridge Country Carnival but all the other colors and patterns come from the Imagine Hopscotch cartridge.  I just love being able to create something so fun with nothing but white paper!

The title was cut with the rope font from the Old West cartridge and filled in with a pattern from Country Carnival also, then I went in with my E57 Copic and went over the rope cuts so they would show up better.  These letters were cut at .6" on the Imagine. 

When I created the hills and grass in the background, I cut two rectangles at 5 x 7 and filled then with patterns from Hopscotch then cut them and pieced them into the background.  I had some small strips left over so I used one to put on the inside of the card.  I found this free rope font from Fontspace.com which took me a total of about 3 minutes to find, download and install.  So easy!
